

At the conclusion of her junior year Sam was immediately a force in the new MHS program. Sam began helping the coaches prepare for UCA camp and the upcoming season. Sam volunteered her time after school to help create a chant video that would be used during future seasons. During Home Pom practice Sam helped teach the Pom Style dance that would be used during competition at UCA Camp. While at camp Sam tried out for UCA All Stars and attended the captain meetings. During tryouts for the Fall Season Sam scored Elite Status where she exuded confidence, ability, spirit and was a judge favorite. After tryouts Sam became a captain and an integral part of the MHS Cheer program. Sam was a stand out as a captain and demonstrated her leadership during games and practices. During the fall season Sam was enrolled in all honors courses as well as several AP courses. At the conclusion of the season Sam received a Minds in Motion award for her academic achievement and earned her third Varsity letter in Cheerleading. During Winter tryouts Sam scored Elite Status again, this time placing in the top two. Sam was again chosen as Captain and continued to lead her team on and off the court. Sam continued to excel in academics and was again enrolled in AP level courses. During the season Sam maintained a 3.6 GPA and received a Minds in Motion Award. At the end of the season Sam was selected to perform during the City/County basketball game where she represented the program and the school in a positive manner. Throughout both seasons Sam wrote the MHS Cheerleading Blog for the Frederick News Post. At the Winter Banquet Sam was awarded with the MVP award for her outstanding accomplishments throughout the season and earned her forth Varsity letter in cheerleading. Sam is now attending the University of Maryland.
2009-2010: Mercede Gastley

Mercede was an enthusiastic and dedicated cheerleader and a role model to her peers. Mercede helped choreograph and teach the home pom dance during the spring of 2009, helping prepare all the girls for UCA camp that summer. Mercede won the “Free Bus” award for top sales in the spring fundraiser that paid her transportation to UCA camp. At camp Mercede was a vital part of all performances and stunts. She worked hard to ensure MHS had a successful week and was recognized as a team leader. During football tryouts Mercede scored Elite status where she executed all upper level stunts as a flyer with a perfect score and executed all upper level stunts as a main and side base. Mercede became a captain for the Varsity team during football season and lead her teammates with sheer poise and a zealous attitude. During the fall season Mercede was enrolled in all honors and AP courses, maintaining a 3.6 GPA. During Homecoming, Mercede was on the Homecoming Court and was recognized during the Homecoming Game. At the conclusion of the season Mercede received a Minds in Motion Award and earned her third Varsity letter in Cheerleading. During winter tryouts Mercede again scored Elite status as both a flyer and base. Again Mercede had stellar grades and was enrolled in all honors and AP level course as well as interned at the Lucy School. During the winter Mercede was inducted into the National English Honor Society. As a Captain, during basketball cheerleading Mercede continually lead her teammates on the court and at practice and was a constant positive force on the squad. At the end of the winter season Mercede was selected to cheer at the City/County Basketball game as a principal flyer. At the conclusion of basketball season Mercede earned her forth Varsity letter. Mercede now attends Towson University.
